The Cap You Love Shouldn't Be the One Your Hair Hates

A woman wearing The Dusk, a dusty pink silk-lined baseball cap by Sero Silks.

We spend so much time looking after our hair. So why do we rarely think about what's touching it?

There's something about a good baseball cap.

It pulls an outfit together in seconds, makes even the simplest look feel considered, and saves you on those days when your hair simply isn't cooperating.

But anyone who wears caps regularly knows there's a catch.

You take it off, and your blowout has disappeared. Your roots are flattened, your edges aren't quite where you left them, and there's that familiar mark across your forehead.

We call it cap guilt.

That little internal debate between wanting to wear your favourite cap and knowing you might regret what happens underneath it.

And it got us thinking. Why had nobody really addressed this?

We thought about the part nobody sees.

We spend a surprising amount of time and money looking after our hair. Salon appointments, conditioning treatments, expensive products, silk pillowcases. We think carefully about what we put on our hair, but rarely about what we put over it.

Baseball caps have been reimagined countless times. Different shapes, colours, logos, fabrics and fits. Yet the inside has remained largely an afterthought.

Most traditional caps have cotton or synthetic fabric against your hair. As you move throughout the day, those surfaces can create friction, contributing to tangles, frizz and mechanical breakage.

It seemed strange to us that something we wear so often hadn't been given a little more consideration.

That was where the idea for SERO began.

We didn't want to reinvent the baseball cap. We love the baseball cap. We just wanted to make it better.

Why silk makes sense.

If you've ever switched from a cotton pillowcase to a silk one, you'll understand the thinking.

Silk has a naturally smooth surface, allowing hair to glide against it with less friction than many rougher fabrics. That can help minimise friction-related breakage, tangling and frizz.

It's not a miracle treatment, and it won't guarantee a perfect blowout after hours under a cap. But it is a more considered surface for your hair to rest against.

Every SERO cap is lined with 100% mulberry silk charmeuse at a 19 momme weight, including the sweatband that sits against your forehead and hairline.

And we're talking about genuine silk, not polyester satin. Satin describes a weave, whereas mulberry silk is the actual fibre.

We chose 19 momme silk for its balance of softness, substance and lightness. Smooth against your hair, comfortable to wear, and thoughtfully integrated into an accessory you already love.

Sometimes, the smallest details make the most sense.

The outside is the look. The inside is the point.

Of course, none of this matters if the cap itself isn't something you'd actually want to wear.

SERO was never intended to look like a haircare product.

We wanted beautiful, everyday baseball caps that you'd choose for their style first, with the added benefit of knowing someone had thought about what was happening underneath.

Each design features a 100% cotton twill exterior, a structured six-panel crown, a curved brim, embroidered detailing and an adjustable strap with brass hardware.

A little less cap guilt.

SERO began with a personal frustration. Our founder, Sophia B Crook, had always loved wearing caps, but her own experience with hair loss made her more conscious of how everyday accessories interacted with her hair.

She didn't want to stop wearing them. She wanted to wear them differently.

And that's really what SERO is about.

We're not promising that silk will transform your hair overnight, or that a cap will never flatten your roots again.

We're simply asking why the accessory you love wearing shouldn't be a little kinder to the hair underneath it.

Because good design isn't always about adding something new. Sometimes it's about paying attention to what everyone else overlooked.

Every cap covers your hair. Not every cap considers it.
